Q: What do I need to wear?
A: Please remember that weather conditions can change quickly and you’ll climb
several hundred metres. Even if its fine, we’d recommend you carry a wind/waterproof jacket. Some riders don leg and arm padding. We recommend everyone’s minimum protection is a helmet.
Q: What are the riding conditions like?
A: The south Wales' mountain bike trails are classed as some of the best riding trails in the world!
Afan is very technical in places, but you make it as difficult as you’re comfortable with by going at your own pace. You must go up before coming down and that means climbing for about the first 15-20 minutes.
See the trail in our Afan Argoed video.
The Cwmcarn route to be decided!
Q: Where is Afan Argoed?
A: Its just outside Port Talbot, South Wales. You need junction 40 off the M4 and then the A4107 for about six miles. Look out for the brown and white signs for Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre.
Q: How do I find Cwmcarn?
A: Cwmcarn is just 20 miles from the Severn Bridge. Take junction 28 off the M4 and then the A467 to Crosskeys/Newbridge/Blackwood. Follow the brown tourist signs to the Forest Drive. Take the A467 past Risca, past Cross Keys then turn right into Cwmcarn after the railway viaduct towards the
car park and Cwmcarn Visitor Centre.

Q: What ID do I need to give you?
A: We will require two forms of ID. A picture ID (e.g. driving licence or passport) and a credit card are both necessary.
Q: How long can I have the bike for?
A: A session is anticipated to be between 40 and 80 minutes.
Q: What if I want to buy the test bike?
A: You’re talking to the right guys. Have a conversation with our
Tredz staff on the day – they’re there for you not the views.
Q: What kit do I need to bring?
A: Pedals are provided (feel free to bring your own) but please bring what you normally would for such an off-road ride: tools, tubes, pump, helmet, energy drink, food, first aid, etc.
Q: Do I need a helmet?
A: Always!
Q: I haven’t booked, can I turn up and get a ride?
A: Sure can, but please bear in mind bikes are on a first come - first served basis.
Q:
The woods are a big place, where will you be?
A: We'll be in the car park, near the visitor centre. Head for the big Tredz tent, you can't miss us.
Q: Will it cost me anything?
A: Not a penny to us, just your car park fee.
Q: What’s the latest time I can go out?
A: Depending on conditions, we envisage our last test riders to go out at approx 15:00.
Q: Can I buy a bike I like and take it that day?
A: Absolutely.
Q: Can I test ride your bikes on other days?
A: Want to choose your own dates? We let our fleet out via our
shops on non test days. We charge £20 for a 48 hour period. On return you get this back as a voucher to be used in our Swansea or Cardiff store. Whether that’s used against a new bike or a load of inner tubes is entirely up to you.
